  • Most people are disbelieving when I tell them I was in a psych ward last year. They see me & how put together I am and think that I don’t fit the mold of that type of person who should be there . But the truth is, we are all that person. I don’t care who you are; there is no such thing as someone who has perfectly got it all together & you should be weary of the people that want to be seen as such. As a recovering perfectionist myself you can believe me when I say that. You can be completely put together by all external purposes but a wreck in the inside; we all are in one way or another. You can also be someone who feels happiness often; as much as you feel hopelessness, anxiety and depression. There’s no black & white answer & we need to get away from that if we hope to be a more sustainable healthy society. It took several er visits, costly medical bills & absolute mental anguish for me to finally face the reality that I was just as human as everyone else; with just as much pain, heartache and struggle. And I’m of the opinion that we should embrace those parts of us; rather than feel consumed or shamed by them. I’m proud of the fact that my struggle led me to get real help; to face real truths in myself that I was desperately trying to hide. I am so much better off now, in a place before I never thought could be a reality. So if I hope to change the narrative on anything, it’s that. The people I respect and admire the most are the ones who are aware or their own struggle & who embrace it as part of the human experience. Those are the people I want in my life. • I want to get serious for a moment as I’ve had an ongoing observation that’s been really bothering me. Full transparency: I do my best in person & online to offer a real life example of someone who is doing their best to live life to the fullest & thereby inspire others to do the same. I’m very imperfect, but I also love that about myself. I commonly get feedback from others of how much they appreciate my positivity (thank you for that 🙏🏻) & how rare it is. On that same token I see often that when I offer a compliment or supportive statement to someone, how uncomfortable it makes them feel. I see them squirm even & often even look at me in cynicism or disdain as if by saying such things it must be for some selfish game of my own, or that they just don’t know how to act to such a thing. & I have to say it makes me so sad. Every. Damn. Time. I see it particularly in gay culture but I know it’s everywhere, but we are more comfortable to jokingly (or seriously) put ourselves down as well as our friends in the name of being funny than we are in saying a kind word or offering support that would leave someone little to no doubt that’s it’s meant to make them feel good. THIS IS NOT OK. To talk to yourself that way or anyone else. Being funny or cool should never be put above being respectful & kind. It should not be rare to hear a compliment or kind word from someone you trust & love. Disclaimer: You can expect me to call you out for this (whether talking about yourself or others) as I would hope a true friend to do the same for me. No one is perfect ; I have plenty of toxic behaviors. But that also doesn’t justify hate or negativity, including from yourself. It does mean that each one of us has work yet to do. Please can we end this epidemic of toxic negativity, judgement & sadistic sarcasm. We all deserve love. We all are beautiful. We all want to feel worthy. We all have something kind to say that can benefit someone’s life. From my favorite quote: “Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind." PS Happy Halloween; go have a spooky fun time.

  • I think my true passion in baking lies in tarts; there’s something about the sophistication, bite & aesthetic they bring that I can’t get enough of. They’re also a great vehicle for a variety of textures, taste & style. This one is fall inspired: Dark Chocolate Ganache with Pumpkin Pie spice, chocolate crust & berries, granola & almonds for decoration (all on sale @ Smiths, cause I’m also a bargain shopper 😆). Not only that but it’s also Vegan! I used coconut milk & vegetable shortening rather than typical dairy products; no one would ever know the difference. Happy hump day! .

  • My therapist made the comment in my session today when we were talking about trauma that it’s wise for me to remember that there is no “end destination” when it comes to healing. To be human means we will have wounds to heal. Period. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just what it is. As someone who is very goal & next step oriented (thanks, Dad) it really struck me. My intent is to be transparent & vulnerable in all of my dealings with people (thanks, Brene). To shut either of those off would be dehumanizing & self debilitating. You fundamentally miss the beauty of conflict & imperfection when you always see it from the vantage point of fixing. So for today I’m reminding myself to appreciate where I am & who I am today. That’s wonderfully enough. @blake_yelavich .

  • I had a fun time making these cupcakes up with @utahigh. Because I’m that guy, I wanted to make something fun & simple for the holiday, et voila. They are a chocolate cupcake (da best) with a marshmallow cream filling & a marshmallow buttercream on top. The spiders are made from mini oreos, black licorice & the googly eyes you can get from any baking supply store. Festive, fun & oh so tasty. . 👨‍🍳 .

  • Because I don’t post enough about this boy: Meet Copper, my numero uno. Like me, he wears his emotions on his face. Not sure quite how to pin this one down, but I’ll tell you he wasn’t fully “feeling it” 😆🤣.

  • “The universe is responding to who you believe you are”
-Unknown

We are all a work in progress, thats a thing to appreciate, not feel ashamed by. For me I can say I genuinely feel confident, sexy & capable of anything. I hope equally you all are able to find positive beliefs about yourself, that you can actually feel as truth within yourself. It’s important to actually feel in your body & believe it more than just affirming it to yourself (which is still a step in the right direction)... Happy hump day :).
