  • Happy Birthday to the Botanical Garden in Aarhus. This year the new greenhouse in the frame celebrates five years of existence. 1.3 million people have over the years visited the botanical garden and the number of visitors per year have been growing ever since the opening.
The project that was completed in 2014 includes a comprehensive restoration of the old greenhouse in the Botanic Garden in Aarhus originally designed by C.F. Møller in 1969.
In the restoration the palm house has become a new botanical knowledge centre, at the same time as the complex is extended with a new, 18 metres high tropical greenhouse, in which the public can go exploring among the tree-tops.
The existing snail-shaped greenhouse was well adapted to its surroundings, and it has been important to bear the existing architectural values in mind when designing the new one. The new greenhouse also uses the organic form, which is, at the same time, based on energy-conserving design solutions and on a knowledge of materials, indoor climate and technology. Advanced calculations have ensured that form and energy consumption interact in the best possible manner. The domed shape and the building's orientation in relation to the points of the compass have been chosen because this precise format gives the smallest surface area coupled with the largest volume, as well as the best possible sunlight incidence in winter, and the least possible in summer.
Today the Botanical Garden is a part of the Science Museums, Aarhus University.

  • Happy to share this proposal for the new technical university Campus ZHAW in Winterthur, Switzerland. The proposal forms a transparent and creative hub for technical knowledge and cutting-edge innovation and is closely integrated with the surroundings.

The new technical university campus in Winterthur is a modern and dynamic campus closely integrated with the surrounding urban and natural context. The project consists of three parts: the campus park and the two buildings TLN1 and TLN2 with study and research facilities. The new buildings and campus park connect the existing historic buildings with the city of Winterthur. It creates an urban campus with direct contact to nature.

The building’s anatomy and layering of the floors is clearly visible through the glass facades. Solar panels are integrated into the facade and ensure that the future demands for the environment are met. Building TLN1 with four floors has an open and inviting public base. TLN1 has two spiral stairs that connects the ground floor with the canteen on the first floor. In the floors above are the labs and offices centered around the atrium. The atrium creates a social and creative heart in the building. From here you have direct visual connection to all functions within the building, the campus park and the urban context. Facing the atrium are meeting spaces, exhibitions spaces and open offices. There is a flexibility zone between the labs and offices ensuring future flexibility. Building TLN2 has labs in the lower floors and offices in the floors above. Both buildings contain the best surroundings for studying and researching. With the openness and green connections, the campus becomes a destination and benchmark in the local scale as well as the national and international.
