Neal Francis has captured an inspired collection of songs steeped in New Orleans rhythms, Chicago blues, and early 70s rock n roll. There is a deep connection between his childhood- his obsession with boogie woogie piano, his father's gift of a dusty Dr. John LP- and the songs he's created. The result is an astonishing collection without parallel in the contemporary funk and soul scene. The influences are unmistakable: the vocal stylings of Allen Toussaint and Leon Russell; the second line rhythms of The Meters and Dr. John; the barroom rock of The Rolling Stones; the gospel soul of Billy Preston; the roots music of The Band and some Tony Joe White.

Bloomington expat Stone Irr's new album is equal parts heart-on-the-sleeve Midwestern indie and warm, West Coast pop, reflecting the artist's Indiana upbringing and recent move to LA. His voice, often multi-tracked with layers of harmonies, is Stone's defining quality. It floats through the record, at times whispered and ethereal and at others gritty and broken, reminiscent of Thom Yorke, Jessica Pratt, Jens Lekman, and Sufjan Stevens. The album features thoughtful production and performances from Mark Edlin and Ben Lumsdaine and album art by Will Schaff (Okkervil River, Songs:Ohia).

As the frontwoman and guitarist for Alabama Shakes, Brittany Howard has become one of music's most celebrated figures. Her band has won four Grammys, and she has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza. But for her solo debut, Jaime, Howard boldly explores new directions, with diverse instrumentation and arrangements and intimate, revelatory lyrics. Recorded at Shawn Everett's Los Angeles studio, it's an enormous step both musically and personally. Three different vinyl versions to choose from!

Bloomington’s Wonderhills are Ryan Heimlich on vocals / banjo, Nick Harley on vocals, guitar and dobro, Peter Doyle on mandolin, Diederik van Wassenaer on fiddle and viola, and Connor Grimm on bass. Inspired by the wooded hills of southern Indiana, this five-piece acoustic outfit writes pop songs using intricate string arrangements and rich vocal harmonies to create a sound that is uniquely their own. Recorded at Blockhouse Studios. #buylocalmusic#supportlocalmusic
Chelsea Wolfe has always been a conduit for a powerful energy, and while she has demonstrated a capacity to channel that somber beauty into a variety of forms, her gift as a songwriter is never more apparent than when she strips her songs down to a few key components. As a result, her solemn majesty and ominous elegance are more potent than ever here. Her longtime musical collaborator Ben Chisholm recorded the songs in their own studio and helped fill them out with his modern production treatments and auxiliary flourishes. The result yields Wolfe’s most devastating work to date.

Belle & Sebastian - Days of the Bagnold Summer
Is releasing a soundtrack a different prospect from releasing a regular album? "Everything we do that becomes an album is a big deal for us," says Murdoch. "We're quietly pleased with how the collaboration went, but the truth is that you don't know what's going to happen when it goes out into the world, and people hear it." Martin thinks it is slightly different from other records they've put out. "It's more consistent, probably, than most of our albums. Soundtracks are a deeper cut. They're not a big pop statement."

Gospel music that is not about God or Jesus, but instead how we deal with each other. Sourced from small label gospel singles from the 70s from fairly obscure groups. These songs are resplendent with love and yet are not love songs, not in the sense of man-addressing-woman, or woman-addressing-man. The material here speaks of life and death, care and disrepair, exultation and release, sorrow and pain, and exhort the listener to hold on, seek peace, let light shine, know joy, recognize the love in one's fellows- nearly every ecstasy excluding the erotic variants is on offer here.
Tinariwen - Amadjar
Amadjar means 'the unknown visitor' in the language of Tamashek, the one who seeks hospitality and who's condemned to an inner exile, within a territory or within himself. In the desert around Nouakchott, to an audience of scorpions, the band recorded their songs under a large tent- in a few takes, without headphones or effects. Violinist Warren Ellis (Dirty Three, Nick Cave) is one of several western guests on the album. We also hear the mandolin/charango of Micah Nelson (son of Willie Nelson, and Neil Young's guitarist), and the guitars of Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O)))), Cass McCombs and Rodolphe Burger. #tinariwen
