  • How beautiful is this? Amid doubt and fear due to restricted civil society in Vietnam, these people showed up with trust. 🔥🙏🏼 (Sorry, worried Mum. But thanks for helping me to translate my sign anyway.)
.
The country's only #climatestrike in Saigon yesterday was more like a #peacefulparade (it had to be) - and was organised by a bunch of passionate millennials who were figuring it out along the way at the last minute.
.
I've gone from co-hosting the event, pushing the march to multiple Facebook groups, sustainable local brands, and major local news sites... to getting hacked and temporarily blocked on Facebook (you can only imagine what extreme scenarios were going through my mind at the time)... to self-revoking my role ('who do I think I am coming to this country to impose this?!'). Well long story short, here I am, anyway.
.
153 people registered, and 50 people marched. No chanting, no shouting, no rioting. But it was still exhilarating. However minor this seems compared to the millions across the world, we're still making a difference. We're doing something global, and we're putting Vietnam on the map alongside the over 150 countries.

  • It was honestly incredible to see so many people out in support of the #climatestrike last Friday, so let’s keep up the momentum with ‘Blockade IMARC 2019’
.
.
.🌎WHAT IS IT?
.Blockade IMARC 2019 is a mass civil disobedience action at the biggest fossil fuel and mining industry conference in Australia, held in Melbourne in late October.
.
.
.🌎WHAT IS IMARC??
.The International Mining and Resources Conference, featuring the world’s worst climate criminals. Companies and individuals such as **Adani's rail line builder, the Calibre group **Federal Resources Minister Matt Canavan, who recently blasted companies that refuse to do business with Adani as "a bunch of bedwetters" and "weak as piss" **Australia's biggest coal company, BHP **Major coal profiteers such as Glencore, Yancoal and Anglo American **Mining companies such as Fortescue, Rio Tinto, Newcrest and Resolute mining, whose mines have been developed through the dispossession of Indigenous people in Australia and around the world.
.
.
.🌎WHAT IS THE PROTEST ABOUT?
.The corporations at IMARC continue to profit from stealing Indigenous land, fueling climate change, exploiting workers, displacing people and driving animal extinction.
.
.
.A broad coalition of groups have come together to blockade IMARC. With the climate entering meltdown, it's urgent to disrupt the "business as usual" of major climate criminals, using mass civil disobedience. .
.
.🌎WHEN & WHERE IS IT?
.The aim is to have thousands of people gathering to blockade this conference, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from Monday 28 to Thursday 31 October.
.
.🌎HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
•Attend the blockade at any time from the 28th to 31st of October
•Like the Facebook page ‘Blockade IMARC 2019’ to see events leading up to the blockade, including organising meetings and activist workshops being run fortnightly by Friends of the Earth in Collingwood. •Pick up posters (1st pic) at the New International Book Shop (NIBS) at the Victorian Trades Hall (downstairs at the Victoria St entrance) and build awareness of the event in your neighbourhood! • Co-created a short doccie with @marcusgarvu for Opera News. On Friday we covered climate activists' strike against Sasol, and to a broader extent carbon capital as a whole.
South Africa is the 14th largest emitter of greenhouse gases and the largest contributer in Africa.

The organisations involved hold Sasol and other carbon criminals directly responsible for the #climatecrisis

Take a look at what they have to say:

Environmental activists @gretathunberg and @georgemonbiot have made a film to highlight the need to protect, restore and use nature to tackle the climate crisis.⠀
Living ecosystems such as forests, mangroves, swamps and seabeds can pull enormous quantities of carbon from the air and store them safely, but natural climate solutions currently receive just 2% of the funding spent on cutting emissions.⠀
⠀
Their message comes ahead of a global climate strike led by young people on Friday 20 September and a UN climate action summit of world leaders in New York the following Monday. The film will be shown to heads of state and the UN’s climate and biodiversity chiefs in New York.⠀
⠀
The film’s director, @tommustill of Gripping Films, said: 'We tried to make the film have the tiniest environmental impact possible. We took trains to Sweden to interview Greta, charged our hybrid car at George’s house, used green energy to power the edit and recycled archive footage rather than shooting new.' Tap the link in our bio for the full interview.⠀

People aren't concerned that 1 in 10 living species of animals on earth live here, whose natural habitat has been destroyed ‼️
There are fears that the raging forest fire have led to the extinction of a few species and endangered others. The environmental implications of the fires will manifest itself in all kinds of ways very soon in the future. 😔
