  • Doing the #TerryFoxRun2019 tomorrow in Oakville. I'll be running for 2 people this year: my grandmother who passed when my dad was a teenager, and Johan Cruyff (the name in my username, you guys are always asking about that!). I wish i could've met my grandmother, everybody tells me she was the kindest, most compassionate soul and would never get mad at anyone except the cancer she was fighting. Johan was/is a huge influence in the world of football ⚽ in terms of philosophy, technique, style, youth development & more. He smoked a lot when he was young and was "2-0 up at halftime" against lung cancer, in his words, before passing away at the age of 68. Apart from my personal heavenly souls, there's always Terry, who we all run for. What a marvelous inspiration he is...it's only after i tried running a couple of kilometers that i realized how much harder it would be to run as much as he did, and with 1 prosthetic as well. I don't think prosthetics back then gave runners anything close to the advantage they have with prosthetics from now.

emotional rant up ahead:

a few years ago i promised to do the world of football and the general world a lot of good in the name of Johan. I've tried to do the right thing (honouring him irl via coaching and playing ⚽, plus literally using his name on insta) but i've often messed up and regret doing quite a few things in his name. I swear to you today that i have learned lessons the hard way and will spend some time every day reflecting on how to be a better person for the benefit of others in this world, and properly pass on your legacy. It is thanks to you that i love football, one of the only things that gives life meaning in these dark days of school stress. Thank you for everything you've done for football, for children, for sport, for people quitting smoking, for people battling cancer, for your teams and rivals, for your family and admirers.
