Fabrications Series
-
“Assemblage of different forms to create a new whole”
-
This is one of my personal series that I enjoyed the most. Probably because I got to
go crazy and mix loads of real world materials ( paint, paper, markers, nail polish, stickers and so on ) to create
textures/paintings/compositions - a really fun process - to then apply it in my beloved 3D. -
I just developed it on the go, didn’t have any major idea behind it. The sole purpose of this project was to have
fun and go crazy with materials. As I was exploring something consistent started to appear therefore I made a series
out of it :D -
Sometimes it’s good to explore just for the sake of it. Without the pressure of having an amazing idea behind it, i find this process
a great creative exercise. -

  • #tbt to 2014 when I was in @taranehhemami ‘s group show @southernexposuresf & was inspired by my Father’s past Iranian student activist life while he was dying of cancer ...He waited to pass 5 days after the opening.

Bootleg Identities: Thieves' Bazaar ( #بازار_دزد)

Inside #BootlegIdentities: Bazaar Dozd , the sculpture figure of the Merchant Artist sells dismembered and disremembered heroes. The costumes and simulated identities of activists and writers sell as authentic Orientalist trophies. Digitally-printed and painted synthetic silk hoods with matching hats feature celebrated luminaries of the time in philosophy, sports, and entertainment; these sell as xeroxed masks of macho silk road bondage.  Images pirated from remnants of the good old days are plastered and embroidered on soccer jersey clad torsos and products. White cotton men’s oxford shirts-the uniform of activists-are painted with images of political figures white washed to vanish their visages and slogans while their sequin bloodied bullet holes shine brightly.
My dozd bazaar borrowed its’ form of Iran’s renegade thieves' markets in their search for freedom from authority and standards of morality.  These bandit businessmen procured products without regard to morality or copyright ownership. Current art markets have contained the impulse for originality and the new by strait-jacketing Iranian artists into a never-ending cycle of exotic fetish; they erect an eternally recurrent mart that continually hijacks the future with a counterfeit past.
Selling an imitation of history to fetishizing shoppers is an act of closure from a simulated memory that allows a restocking of the latest options and the freedom to reincarnate in a new fashion. The art market says Orientalism sells. Go Team Orientalism. Rest in oblivion Orientalism.

  • A few #fabrications and this #w126 is the perfect baby hauler. Welded in isofix connectors for a modern car seat and a frame for a rear view mirror since there’s no middle head rest. And charging stations in each rear ashtray A few #fabrications and this #w126 is the perfect baby hauler.
