  • BETTER THAN SEX ✨ Esta version mini, la conseguí canjeando mis puntos de @sephoramx V.I.B. • Next up for #JRPGJuly is Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. I'm so excited to play this - it looks so gorgeous!

Ys is a series I've wanted to get into for a long time and I finally ended up getting all the games except VIII during the Steam Golden Week Sale. I played them in the fan recommended story order: I, II, Origins, Celceta, Felghana, VI, and Seven. Which then brings us to VIII, which after much thought I decided to go with the Switch version. .
.
The Ys games are action RPGs that follow the adventures of Adol Christin, who tends to get washed up on the shores of different countries and subsequently becomes involved in uncovering the mysteries of ancient civilizations and saving the world. There are 3 distinct types of gameplay across the series: I and II use a bump system where instead of pressing an attack button you just kind of mow through enemies at a proper angle. A bit weird at first, but ended up being really fun. Origins, Felghana, and VI use an attack button and also have a bit of platforming, and Celceta and Seven introduce a party system that's similar to the Tales of games.

So far Celceta and Seven are firmly tied as my favorite Ys game. Celceta has a mystery that is unraveled through flashbacks, which I really enjoyed. Seven started off a bit slow but ended up being super interesting and the ending made me cry. And that final boss was wild! I hated it but it was also really satisfying to grind for dragon gear then beat it on my second try. Felghana was the most challenging Ys for me - I started on Normal but ended up restarting on Very Easy and just face-rolled through it. *cough* 😅

I'm sure I'm going to really love Ys VIII as well. The challenge will be can I finish it before Fire Emblem Three Houses drops?
