FULLTIME | Shakhtar 0-3 Man City
First win of this Champions League tournament! We started pretty well as we pressed when we didn’t have the ball. We were the best team but Shakhtar was very strong on the counter attack! But we managed to shut them out. We didn’t created that much chances especially not very big chances but we got our first goal in 24th minute, scored by Mahrez and assisted by Gündogan. A bit later it was vice versa, Gündogan scored and Mahrez assisted (38’). That was the score at halftime. We stared the second half pretty well but so did Shakhtar... but non of of really created dangerous chances. Until the 76th min, when Gabriel Jesus scores the third of the evening! @kevindebruyne gave the assist for the last goal! Another one for him💙
Cancelo replaced Walker in the 81th min. Happy for him that he got some time.
We played much better then against Norwich in the League but we still aren’t at our top level.
The other match in group C was Dinamo Zagreb - Atalanta which ended in a 4-0 victory for Zagreb.

5 ways to improve recovery
As we know recovery is the number 1 tool needed to optimise adaptation, get strong as well as improve body composition. Here are 5 go to recovery tools I use to optimise training:
1- Get more sleep. Sleep along side adequate nutrition are the most important tools for active recovery. The majority of muscle repair and growth occurs during deep sleep. This is also when key hormones are released to adapt and grow.
2- Don’t under eat for to long. Yes, a calorie deficit in the whole scheme of things is what you need to create fat loss. But if you don’t fuel you performance you will never be able to overreach and adapt. Remember we need enough calories to perform, a calorie deficit to drop some tin but not a NUTRIENT deficit.
3- Ice baths and heat threapy. Dropping yourself into an ice bath has been shown to reduces inflammation as well as have a super compensative effect. As you get in your blood vessel constrict, then as you leave the ice bath the dilate to allow blood back in, getting rid of waste product as well as flush nutrients and oxygen to the relevant areas.
4- Get a massage. Hard physical training is detrimental in the long run if you are unable to adapt, maintain structural integrity of joints and tissues and allow new tissue to grow. A massage gets rid of inflammation, waste products, realigns facia, improves circulation as well as having a parasympathetic effect to the mind, body and nervous system.
5- Understand what a deload is. You can only hammer your body for so long before you start to plateau or even go backwards. Common signs of this are:
-Lack of progression
-Lose of appetite or hungry all the time
-Heart rate variability drops
-Blood pressure goes up abnormally -Lack of energy
Take home message. You can only train as hard as you can recover.

Manchester City have been plunged further into a defensive crisis as John Stones is out for five weeks.
With Aymeric Laporte already out for the long term, Nicholas Otamendi is now the team's only fit central defender.
Stones sustained an injury in training on Tuesday morning and the club confirmed he is set for more than a month on the sidelines.
Phil Foden has a virus problem with his stomach and is unable for the game against Shaktar Donetsk. Pep thinks Phil can be back for the next game.
