  • 🌲🐾Happy #nationalbookloversday & Friday! Here’s what Annar dove into this week! #FridayRead: “In preparation for Krasznahorkai’s next translated novel, BARON WENCKHEIM’S HOMECOMING (trans. Ottilie Mulzet, September 2019 @ndpublishing) I’ve revisited the B-side of this tiny book — reading HERMAN: The Game Warden & The Death of a Craft! An eerie, quick-paced, semi natural-horror meets existential & moral crisis, as told from the perspective of a skilled and retiring game warden AND visitors of that region. This story always haunts and humors me for days.🌲🐾 🌲🐾Happy #nationalbookloversday & Friday! "If Dallas could focus its tree-planting efforts in places where the city could improve lives the most, the investments could act as benefit multipliers—saving money on energy costs for households least likely to have air conditioning, protecting children with asthma, and, most critically, preventing heat-related deaths." #fridayread // How Trees Can Save Us. Hope everyone is staying cool. This is the weekend to just stay in the air conditioning and read some good 📚📚📚📚! I 💙 all things space especially new #nonfictionbooks about 🚀 and the new 📚 #escapefromearth from earth has rockets, history, sex and Cold War & FBI files. The 📚 focuses on #frankmalina who was a pioneer in rocketry/ engineering and he also had a small interest in the communist party in the 1930’s and was on the FBIs radar. He was a genius who studied under #theodorevonkarman at #caltech and his experiments with his classmates when they tested rockets & engine offsite at the Arroyo Seco area would eventually become The Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I can’t think of a more appropriate #fridayread on the 50th anniversary of #apollo11 🚀👩‍🚀🌕. Big thanks to @publicaffairsbooks @hachettebooks for sending this to me. I have 2 copies to share so let me know in the comments and I will send you the book. Are you interested in books about 🚀👩‍🚀🌕? • Wow, wow, wow. That’s what I have to say about ‘Three Women’, by Lisa Taddeo @bloomsburypublishing ••• So much contemporary literature is subject to hype. You read the reviews. You get excited. You read the book. It just isn’t all that. No surprise, I guess. There’s no truer test of what’s great and what isn’t than the passing of time. ••• But this remarkable debut is one of the best things I have read in ages, an anatomisation of female desire right here right now in the year 2019. It underlines what makes contemporary fiction so powerful when it’s good: it’s very contemporaneousness. There are eternal truths in ‘Three Women’ - lots - but as many spine-shiveringly instantaneous-seeming ones, too. ••• Told by way of three women’s stories, three real women’s stories, which Taddeo has reincarnated so they read with all the compelling urgency of the very best fiction, it’s great on love, but mainly the focus is on lust, and on the lack of it. It’s also sublime on the endless choreography of what it means to be a ‘success’ as a woman - from your size to your sexual allure - and what happens if you make a mis-step. ••• So many quotes I could share. Here is just one. Inappropriate New-Year texts between female student and male teacher. He asks if she has had a New Year kiss. She asks him back. His reply: ‘“I’m married, Maggie.” Whatever that means. It could mean a million things. One of those things could be, I am married so we make out all the time… Or it could mean, I am married and so everything that is sexual between us is clinically dead. It’s hamburger meat at the restaurant where you work. Our passion would not be roused if you stepped on its tail in your prom heels.”’ ••• Bag: @jimmychoo • Shoes: @nicholaskirkwood • Dress: @essentielantwerp ••• #bookbag #fridayread #styleandsubstance #stylesmarts 📚👠👜❤️ Wow, wow, wow.
