Well, I don't remember ever playing The Game of Life as a kid and now I know why... I probably gave up five minutes in just from setting up the game and realizing that o had to read... However the kids enjoyed the 3 and a half hours it took to play the game and the only one to decide to get down an go watch Curious George instead of finishing the last five minutes was Lula... I was very surprised that my kids all went down a career path and not college. Before we opened the game all Brody wanted was to be a " Race Car Driver " and amazingly enough that is exactly the card he got from the pile! Throughout the game Brody had not had a baby yet despite going down the family path, missing all the babies and even spinning for babies he was still left with no babies and he was completely brought to tears over not having babies. As I sat there holding him as he cried Lula graciously said " Brody you can have one of mine " ( that was a big deal ) ... Ryder and Perrie also offered up a child peg and put the biggest smile on his face.
Perrie came across many wonderful homes and wanted none of them until almost the end when she drew the " Farmhouse " card... She was ready to buy, which is so fitting for her...she also got fired from the Police Department for bringing her cat to work...also, sounds fitting...all is well though because she turned it all around when she became an Actor. Ryder was fired from being a Chef for snoozing on the job... He hated the job anyway but every time the opportunity arises for a new career he always got " Dancer " ...so he remained a " Chef " ... I was so surprised how this little board game brought up some big emotions for my kids... They were all so invested emotionally to the game. When something didn't go the way someone wanted, their siblings were quick to say, " well that's life... " Playing this game caught me off guard as I didn't expect it to go the way it did.... But such is life.
