For all our new friends, LEAD was founded in 2017 by 3-Time Olympian Kara Lynn Joyce (@karalynnjoyce). A common theme and passion throughout her athletic career and professional journey has been the mentorship and empowerment of young women. "On Sunday, Minnesota's Maddy Freking became the hero of the Little League World Series. On Sunday, Maddy became the first girl to pitch in the Little League World Series since Mo'ne Davis starred for Pennsylvania's team five years prior. Unlike Mo'ne, Maddy came in as a position player pitching -- a fact that arguably makes her performance way cooler -- and was faced with a difficult bases-loaded jam. Thanks to a nasty two-seamer and a heads-up defensive play, she got out of it without allowing a run.
Unfortunately, Freking's team lost that game against Virginia, putting them just one loss away from elimination. Regardless of her team's fate, she's already made history as just the 19th girl to play in the tournament and the sixth to pitch. More than checking off historical milestones, Maddy inspired girls, boys and adults alike with her focused dominance in an incredibly stressful spot. She’s what the Little League World Series is all about. - @mlb
"It's an honor," said Freking, the starting second baseman for the Coon Rapids-Andover (Minnesota) team. "I also think it's really cool to be, out of however many boys, the 19th girl to be here." - @espn
Since the World Cup ended, I've been thinking a lot about the wage gap. Being in the field I am in, it's an issue I really care about, but have often felt overwhelmed by and powerless towards 😔 Maybe some of you have felt the same way.
This is a loaded conversation that could go on and on but right now I wanted to share one simple thing you can do to actually make a difference in the wage gap:
SUPPORT FEMALE ATHLETES.
And I don't just mean follow them on instagram or learn their names (definitely do these things too) but I mean actually WATCH THEM PLAY. Support them AS athletes.
If you have a local women's sports team, become a fan! Go to their games, or at least watch them on TV, or at the very least, check the scores on ESPN. Do something to become invested in the team/the athletes.
🏈 If you love college football season, start learning the names and stories of the cheerleaders and halftime dancers (they're athletes too!)🤸🏿♀️If you love the NBA 🏀 (who doesn't?) start loving the WNBA just as much ⛹🏻♀️ I bet on average people can name 10 current NBA players, but how many WNBA players can you name? If you follow European soccer leagues (the greatest!) ⚽️, find out what the women's equivalent of your favorite team is, and watch some games 🥅
If you already love men's sports, it doesn't take much extra effort to love women's sports too. But this is what can make a difference. We need to ✨SUPPORT these women,
🌟APPRECIATE the athletes they are, and show them they have 💫TRUE FANS on and off their courts and fields.
A thrilling day for Isabel and her team today, plus a special day for local girls/women with this being the first Healesville girls team to win a premiership today. May there be many more girls who continue to love and play football and have the same opportunities as the boys. #aflgirls#girlsinsports
As the saying goes, when you experience firsthand.. the words make a whole new difference.. One of our MFI girl shares the plight, the hardships a girl child still faces in her community. Education does make an immense change in one's life and helps you reach your full potential. Proud to say, she made a speech in English highlighting on importance of sports and education and how her community is experiencing the much required change in the lives of Girls. :-) Say yes to Girls being part of Sports.
Happy Independence Day to all from Magician Foundation (India)
ASA NETBALL STAR OF THE WEEK ⭐️ ABIGAIL ⭐️ All of the coaches were so impressed with Abigail’s skill level! Every passing, shooting, defending and movement drill she mastered within minutes and executed new skills during matches with ease! Abigail has a clear passion for netball that spreads to those around her and play with her on the court! She mixed with different girls of all ages and from different schools whilst at camp and was a true pleasure to coach! We believe a real one to watch within Aberdeen Netball in the future! Well done, Abigail! 🌟 #axtensportacademy#asanetball#netball#netballcamps#scottishnetball#aberdeennetball#passionfornetball#girlsinsports
With Fall sports starting up across the country, I want to spotlight girls golf.🏌️♀️.
There is always so much attention on Football🏈 this time of year and I love football. ❤️.
But GOLF for girls is where it’s at!! 💥
✨Golf is a great sport that can be played for a lifetime. It’s also a nice bonus to have as a networking tool in business for the future! 👍.
✨Golf is also a wonderful component to supplement other sports as it is very mentally focused and the athletes gain a great awareness to their body positioning and biomechanics which can help bring new insight and balance to other sports for improved performance. #multisportathlete .
✨There is also great opportunity for young athletes with golf, as schools and universities are always in need of female golfers to fill their programs and scholarships are available. 💵.
‼️Women’s golf is the #1 unused scholarship for sports😱 due to programs not being able to find qualified athletes for their roster positions and fill scholarships. .
Now, this isn’t to say that you’re just going to be able to walk up and get a full ride. No...they still have to be earned. 💯 You’re still going to have to work hard and put in the time and effort. To compete at the Division 1 level, average scores are in the high 60’s to low 80’s. 📚Plus, having good academics to support your golf game is needed as well. .
Give golf a try! Get out of your comfort zone - you may just find a new (or another) sport! 😊🏌️♀️ And always remember, the MOST important component is to compete for the love of the game. ❤️. #saturdaysportspotlight#girlsgolf#girlsinsports#femaleathlete#athleticscholarship#highschoolathlete#studentathlete#sportperformance#mentalstrength#athenaathlete#fallsports#playlikeagirl#truesport
