  • @futuristkwame : The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015, is the international community’s ambitious response to today’s most pressing global development challenges and will guide our development priorities for an entire generation. Young people played a key role in shaping this agenda and experience first-hand many of the issues it seeks to address. .
.

Recent decades have witnessed significant advances in terms of human development, but deep challenges remain. Progress has been uneven, with many young people across the globe still experiencing interlocked forms of discrimination, limited political inclusion, high levels of poverty, and limited access to health systems, educational opportunities and decent jobs. .
.
The goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda are interconnected, aiming to integrate the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. Explicitly or implicitly, young people are deeply embedded within their fabric. Their knowledge, reach and innovative solutions are essential if sustainable development is to be realized. . .

Enes Şahin has only 212 posts on his Twitter account, but a recent tweet starting with, “I have an idea” went viral with over 55,000 responses—and it attracted the attention of a member of the Turkish government, who vowed to establish his ‘National Tree Planting Day.’ The tweet goes as follow "No one is going to plant trees in Turkey," Enes Şahin wrote on Twitter, "There is a day dedicated to planting trees in many countries of the world, many countries have arranged for themselves accordingly. Countries such as Australia, Kenya, North Korea and Iran are also doing something for plantation. But in Turkey, there is nothing to promote plantation at government level. "
The Turkish official who noticed Şahin’s Tweet is Rumeysa Kadak, the youngest elected deputy. She replied that she would present Enes’s idea—and within hours, the president himself responded to Şahin via Twitter. “This is a great idea, Enes. We‘ve always worked for a greener Turkey and continue to do so. My friends and I will undertake all responsibility to make sure that we have a national tree planting day,” said President Erdoğan.
