Jump, and the universe will spot you.
For me, a humbling but necessary part of growth is learning how to depend on others to make success possible. In powerlifting, you reach a point where you can no longer keep optimal setup & mechanics in a bench press without a lift-off (nor keep best safety practices without a spotter). Getting better as an individual literally requires the presence of another person. And in scientific research, I’m learning, it’s just the same. Running equipment, recruiting, supervising, and coaching dozens of people at a time - you will physically, logistically, & downright spiritually need other people to make it happen. Lots of them. With unending dedication to the goal at hand. 😅@megannicolehh and @skilla2011 are two of the best people I’ve ever met in this regard, and they truly made the dream work today for me with this 🚨 NEW PR 🚨 of triples at 155lbs. Then later, with their invaluable help, we enrolled 11 new participants in the #usfdietbreakstudy, bringing our running total to 26 and officially halfway to our predetermined n of 50 for adequate power.
But support comes from all sources, not always in immediate view. Like being able to go “all-out” at this precious time in my life and take advantage of every opportunity to grow personally and professionally, knowing that I have the steadfast love & support of @alaskangold behind me. Just like this ad hoc AMRAP set captured the other week of 12 at 185. I had guessed 8 reps for myself but was able to blow past those expectations, due solely to my trust in his support & his encouragement in my ear. “Thank you - feels light,” I say, about the weight as well as my spirits. “You got more. Go,” he says, about my reps as well as my ambition. “Chest up.” ✨
No man is an island, and no moment am I ungrateful for the most solid people in my corner when I need them most. •
To do list today:
1. Set 3 positive intentions for today.
2. Think of 3 things you’re grateful for. (I write mine on my mirror before bed each night).
3. Be a nice human to a stranger.
4. Do something, even if it’s small, that supports your goals.
5. Take care of your body.
Protein shakes have been hit and miss for me as a lot upset my stomach. But I’ve finally found a protein powder that isn’t floury, tastes bloody delicious & is gentle on my belly. P.s. Vanilla is my go to 😍
For a sneaky discount use the code “loveluxe” 🤫
Also peep the lolly jar in the background cos I’m a sugar head
I know I am wearing the same Jurassic Park t-shirt as my last photo. I have a horrible habit of living in the same clothes over and over again (they do get washed, I just grab them first)
My natural state is full blown potato, and that is how I have been lately. Tomorrow is a serious “get your shit together” kind of day for me. Fall is one of my favorite times of year and I’m jumping the gun and starting to decorate early for it. Once that happens, you’ll see a whole new basic bitch before your eyes. (I promise though, you’ll see more creative content come once this happens. Anyone else need a day and some major changes to help inspire them?)
Ya girl is going to get her PT certification! 😱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was going to keep this private until I actually took the test, but secrets, secrets are no fun unless they’re shared with everyone 😉 Plus I think it’ll be a fun little project to do with this profile.
Reasons why I decided to become a PT:
1️⃣ I love working out. It makes me so happy and confident, and I want to share that feeling with others!
2️⃣ Being a certified PT would provide another source of income, and potentially help me reach financial stability. I didn’t have a job for most of the summer—money was tight. It’s still tight even though I just recently got a job. I was able to do some side jobs, but they weren’t steady.
3️⃣ I am so tired of seeing trainers who don’t give the slightest f**k about their clients. Some of the trainers at my current gym have advanced programs for people that are clearly beginners. Not only that, but some of the trainers don’t even teach proper form. Sometimes I see their clients in pain, and that infuriates me. Proper training shouldn’t be painful; it should be fun.
4️⃣ I don’t see a whole lot of woc as PTs, so that needs to change ASAP. I also don’t see a whole lot of trainers that are anti-diet. “Kill two birds with one stone” except you shouldn’t kill birds.
If you’re currently a PT or also in the process of becoming one and have tips, comment them below!!!
