  • I’ve been struggling to find the right words for this post. Sorry if it’s a bit ranty.
As a #hairdresser you meet so many people from different #cultures, #social circles, #professions and #personal backgrounds. They all have one thing in common though; they come to the #salon to feel good, embrace and #express their own #individuality and expect us (the #stylist) to carry out their wishes without judgement, because what they choose to do with their #hair is totally their choice, right? So it came as quite a shock to me that after over 20 years of #hairdressing I came across my first #client who refused to let me cut her daughter’s hair purely because she didn’t like the way I looked. She failed to #learn my name, she had no #idea how long I have been in my profession or how I’ve managed #salons for #international companies, #educated #stylists and other educators #worldwide, or how I’ve been #lucky enough to have worked alongside some of the most highly reputable and respected #craftsmen who have #inspired me to keep evolving and growing in a profession that you could quite easily get sick of very quickly if you weren’t that passionate... especially when dealing with judgemental people like this woman. I happen to fucking love my hair! When I finally got in for a very overdue #dreadlock maintenance today I left feeling so happy that I have a hairdresser who is just as passionate about delivering as I am. I appreciate how hard my hairdresser works and I love that she leads by example with expressing her own individuality.
I guess the point I’m eventually getting at here is this: don’t judge someone without taking the time to engage in conversation with them first! Keep your opinions to yourself and allow others to walk their path. Stay in your own lane. I’ve been struggling to find the right words for this post. Sorry if it’s a bit ranty.
