  • On #worlddiabetesday it’s a great time to look at the impact of lifestyle factors on type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that we can often significantly improve or in some cases even reverse by lifestyle changes.

There are several factors to look at:

FOOD - is probably the thing most people are aware of when it comes to diabetes. An example of things you can change are reducing processed foods & looking at more whole grains (such as wholewheat, rye, spelt etc) alongside a wide variety of vegetables and fruit (though they contain sugar, it’s naturally occurring & current advice is that you don’t need to avoid it). If you need support with your diet your doctor should be able to give more info or refer you to see a dietician.

DRINKS - we all focus on food but drinks can also be a sneaky culprit in diabetes difficulties. Excess alcohol consumption, fizzy drinks, sugary squash & that extra sugar in your tea/coffee are easy to forget or ignore but have a big impact on blood sugar levels.

EXERCISE - this is not only helpful in weight loss, but by building more lean muscle it can help improve insulin sensitivity which is vital to improve diabetes. It can also help reduce stress/anxiety levels.

RELAXATION - as I’ve mentioned before self care is something that easily gets neglected but is important for both our mental & physical health.
High levels of anxiety & stress cause a multitude of negative effects on our bodies but in relevance to diabetes it can increase your blood sugar levels.
Therefore practising self care and mindfulness could potentially help with your blood sugar level readings.

SLEEP - poor sleep is often linked to increased anxiety & stress, perpetuating the cycle & therefore a lack of sleep can have an impact on your diabetes.

  • Look at this sexy shot of our KILLA MAC’ by @the.chow.channel ❤️#RepostPlus @the.chow.channel

Killa Mac. £8 @killa_waffles
#complimetary
I don’t think I can explain how amazing this was. Takes the chicken and waffles game to a whole new level and was well worth the trip to @beavertownbeer 😍

I went for the Killa Mac which had buttermilk chicken nuggets and mac & cheese 🤤. For the sauce I had some garlic sauce and sriracha. There are like 6 you can choose from

One of the things I really liked about this was that the chicken and mac were layered throughout the cone so it wasn’t just a load of mac topped with chicken. The chicken was really tender and not dry which was an added bonus and the mac was creamy and delicious 🤯

The guys who run it were absolutely lovely as well. They were more than willing to have a chat with me about their plans. They’ll be doing a month long residency at @yourallypally in December so catch them there or have a look on their page to find out where else they’ll be 🤤
