  • I love a good art experience and “Lawn” @nationalbuildingmuseum does not disappoint. You are transported out of the city into a surreal and borderline kitschy lawn filled with the sounds of (real) kids playing on the hill, (fake) summer sounds coming from loudspeakers, and a mysterious fountain at the bottom of a wide well in the middle. Play cornhole, rest in a lawn chair, or pop into one of many hammocks outfitted with speakers playing the voices of celebrities and artists sharing lawn stories at just the right volume that you could listen or ignore it. In a testament to the great design, people were actually resting and reading and chilling all over the lawn, really using the space not just looking at it or taking photos (oops). It’s on for another few weeks (till Sept 2) so if you can get to DC to see it before then I highly recommend it. .
