️⃣The Speedy handbag dates back to the original LV Keepall, used for travel in the 1930’s. In 1965, Audrey Hepburn requested that #louisvuitton create a smaller version to be carried as an every day bag. Audrey Hepburn will forever be linked to the popularity of the Speedy.
️⃣The prototype of what’s now known as the Hermes Kelly was called the “Haute’a courroise” and was used to carry saddles. Later, in the 1930’s, it was redesigned as a travel bag and called the “sac a depeches.” Grace Kelly fell in love with the bag in 1954 on the set of “To Kill a Thief.” Later she was famously photographed using the #hermeskelly to cover her pregnant belly. The bag was officially renamed the Kelly in 1977.
️⃣Coco Chanel designed the 2.55 because she was tired of carrying around a handbag without a strap. The bag gets its name, 2.55, from its design date of February, 1955. The bag’s lock is famously known as the Mademoiselle because Coco Chanel never married.
️⃣The Gucci Jackie bag was originally called the Fifties Constance and was known as a unisex bag. It was introduced in 1961 and reflected the bohemian style of the era. It became popular when one of the most stylish First Ladies in American history, Jackie Kennedy, was photographed carrying it on multiple occasions. It was renamed the Jackie in her honor in 1977.
️⃣Created in 1983, the Birkin was born after a conversation between Hermes CEO, Louis Dumas, and Jane Birkin on a flight from Paris to London. Jane requested a leather weekend bag so Dumas designed one for her on an airplane napkin. The rest is history!
️⃣ In 1995 at a Dior Art Exhibit, the First Lady of France presented Princess Diana with a brand new Dior bag. It became her favorite handbag and there are multitudes of photographs of the Princess carrying her beloved black #ladydior. The handbag was soon officially named the Lady Dior.
