Alright y'all, remember all those ornaments I made? They have gone through their standard bisque and glaze firings and are now in a third firing for what's known as "luster". Luster is a very stinky substance that is applied after glaze firing which can lead to some super cool effects. They make gold luster, platinum luster, etc, etc which leave a thin coating of metal or other substances behind after firing. The blue/green stuff you see here is mother of pearl luster, and if I did it correctly, it will leave a sort of rainbow iridescence on these pieces. They're in the kiln now, so let's hope for the best! ❤🤞
It’s funny how we artists change so much until we find our groove. But do we change or just develop more and more? I have been doing pottery since i was a sophomore in high school. Most potters are self taught or just picked it up after some classes at a local pottery studio( 😏) but I have always been taught by the best & It is such a privilege to teach others to be the best. I get so excited seeing my students progress in such a short time! Pottery might have come easy to me in the beginning but it is school that really drilled into me why i do what i do and the meanings behind my art. It might look easy to just make a bowl but why did i choose to make that shape, what will it be used for, what makes this piece different from the rest. Why choose the color i did. It is a 3D bowl but what emotion do you want it to gravitate to? That is something you do not get from learning on your own but i definitely wouldnt of. When i was younger, i sometimes would leave the studio in frustration because the bowl i made did not give off the energy i needed it to. From learning in high school to college to out of school to teaching college to teaching adults; and as a teacher am evolving. i will always have concept in my mind of why i choose agate ware and why i choose to show uncontrolled order in my work. Never choose to make something just to make it. Everything deep down everything has a reason even if you don’t realize it right now. You will.
Am i wrong? Do you feel the same way? Thoughts?
Alright y’all, what would you call these earrings?! 🤔 Stretched studs, elongated posts, long posts, oval studs, or something else?! Maybe I’m overthinking this, but I was trying to give them a name and couldn’t decide what to call them!! 🤣 All I know is I really like them and might have kept a pair for myself... ok I did. 🙈 These 22k detailed babes will be the restock tomorrow at 5pm CST and I’ll have a preview of all pieces in my story sometime this evening.✨
P.S. - If you’ve read all the way to this I hope you know how thankful I am for you this holiday season. I hope my art brings you a little light of you need it, and I am truly grateful you’re around. Now here’s a friendly reminder to tell someone you’re thankful for them in your life today. We can’t do this life alone. 🖤
