  • Mezcal in the moonlight // The mezcal pairing at @woodandvine x @bozalmezcal was something I’ve been wanting to do. I’m a huge fan of mezcal and I loved listening to how it’s made. We tried four mezcal varietals and paired them with unique dishes from @woodandvine, like their aguachile, heirloom tomato and ricotta tartine, grilled skirt steak with spiced beans, and lastly, ginger pear and walnut cake with mango sorbet.

  • So when @junnorthloop closed last year due to mechanical issues and kept staying closed for months, many of my friends tried to convince me that it was done for good. Stubbornly, I said "nnnnnooooooo". It's been too long since we had a full service Chinese restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, so I mentally kept sending it out into the universe that it would reopen. A few weeks ago, I cornered one of the @szechuanroseville staff to tell me what was happening with Jun and he laughed and said be patient for September reopening.  Tonight I met @aaronkesslermpls and @brianwkessler for dinner there for the Grand Reopening (I guess putting thoughts out in the universe does work). The menu has been revamped to be a bit more approachable to the neighborhood, but when I saw Chef Pat Weber of @misenplacempls in the open kitchen,  I asked for input on what to order. I absolutely loved the Szechuan Dumplings, Spicy Szechuan Beef Noodle Soup and Chong Qing Spicy Chicken.  Chef was nice enough to send out three desserts.  The Mango Sorbet and Sesame Balls (served with spiced honey) were big hits.  Thanks Brian for treating us to  dinner...such a nice surprise!  And thanks Chef for the desserts!

📝Ingredients📝 (Serves 8)⁣
4 Mangoes⁣
½ cup honey⁣
½ cup water⁣ ⁣
👩‍🍳Preparation⁣👨‍🍳
1. Cut the mangoes into ½ inch cubes. Cover and freeze on a baking tray for a minimum of 4 hours.⁣
2. In a food processor, add the frozen mango, water, and honey. Mix until the mixture is smooth.⁣
3. Remove from food processor and scoop into a deep tray.⁣
4. Freeze again for at least one additional hour.⁣

Featuring hojicha kombucha with mango sorbet (.....that blob of yellow reminds of the full moon today). So refreshing, even on a rainy day ☔. I enjoyed this cool treat on a day when it was pouring, thankfully 🙏 there was a break of rain so that I could take some photos outside.
