An athlete is someone who is regularly invested in their riding whether competitively or not. If you are a weekend warrior then YOU ARE an athlete. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Athletes are used to pushing their bodies to the limit. We get up early, we ride as often as we can. We subject ourselves to gruelling climbs and hours and hours on the bike. Maybe we even train in the gym too.
There is zero information on women, the pelvic floor and mountain biking - - - NOT because we are immune to problems but because NO ONE is advocating it. Athletes do NOT have higher levels of pelvic floor muscle strength. Because athletes train more and push harder, there is more strain!
Pregnancy, postpartum + motherhood demands that we make training + lifestyle modifications to secure our mental, physical + pelvic health - but during this chapter we also need to adjust our MINDSET. If our mindset is not adaptable we will feel frustrated with our limitations OR we will push on risking our physical mental and pelvic health. One adjusted mindset is to NOT view your body as “babies out now “ and go back to what you were doing prior. If we understand that we are susceptible to pelvic health issues we will find it easier to take it slow in this chapter and our bodies will be singing with happiness and shreddy-ness!
Travelling with bikes can be expensive. In preparation for this trip I looked at the difference between bringing our own vs hiring bikes. At the end we decided that bringing own bikes is more fun and ultimately cheaper if you are planning on riding more than a couple of days.
So this is all the luggage for 2 people for 8 days.
1. 2 bike bags packed with trail bikes + helmets + shoes + bike clothes and pads, pump, tools, etc. Each came to 28kg. This was our check in bag with Qantas. We were allowed up to 30kg on an international flight which also extended to domestic
2. A small carry on suitcase each with clothes and necessities
3. A light beach bag for me and a backpack with laptop for Jamie. ✔No extra bags (a full 23kg bag with Qantas will set you back $380). ✔No overweight fees.
