  • The last day of @fotofestiwal and the shelves full of books. Some are of a better quality, some not. In the middle of a shelf, a shiny title of a book dedicated to modern Macedonia and it's foundation myth. The photographs are tasteful, the publication is aesthetically satisfying. Alexander, of course.
But it's always disturbing to me to read how much stress is put to create and sustain such myths. How dangerous they can be once not checked, and turned into feelings of superiority. Or inferiority, doesn't matter. The story (swipe to read) about the political fight between Macedonia and Greece about the character long dead seems to be the proof of the dangerous power of beliefs.
And it reminds me time and time again how fast the European North forgot about the tragedy of the Balkan war....
...
