This gives me life. Productive struggle and a relationship breakthrough. 6 minutes this fifth grader worked to stretch and build the phonemes in this one word using sounds and letters different from their home language. This baby did it. I am so proud. And to the right, an opportunity for the student to teach me a few things. Teaching and learning must be reciprocal. My bucket is full! #teachersofinstagram#reallygreatreading#teachtolearn#phonics
I’m so sad that I just discovered this book! “Mango, Abuela, and Me” would have been a great book to read the first week of school! In the book, Mia and her grandmother are divided by a language barrier, but the two work together to help each other strengthen their “weaker” language. So perfect for first graders who are enrolled in a dual language program! But, even for kids who aren’t, this book is a fantastic read that promotes both kindness and cultural competence ❤️
I’ll take some of each please @areyouokcampaign 💜 this weekend my plans are: gym twice, garden, talk to my prayer partner about what’s been hard lately, spend time with my sisters, go flower picking with a friend, soak in some goodness at church, sit and read for a few hours, and do a little but of school work. A whole lot of rest paired with a little bit of responsibility. I hope you have some time to recharge this weekend friends! 💜 .
Yesterday’s Halloween cutting strips became today’s pattern practice.🤗 So if you haven’t made your cutting strips, get started and you’ll get two activities in one!🙌🏼
After cutting squares of Halloween stickers use them to make and extend patterns. We practiced together since this is a skill JT is still working on. Then the best part, he got to glue them into place!😂
Do your kiddos love glue as much as mine does?🤷🏻♀️

We stand with CPS teachers! They are standing up for better schools for their students. Striking can be long days, very tiring and stressful not knowing what the future holds.
Let’s show CPS teachers that we support them! 🍎Please tag a CPS teacher (or yourself) below that you know who could use a coffee (or tea)! 🍎If you would like to send a CPS Teacher a little something to brighten up their day and show them that you support them.
1) Click on one of the tagged teachers below
2) DM them a Starbucks @starbucks gift card (see my stories for details). To receive a gift card you MUST work for CPS. @ctulocal1#chicagoteachersunion#payitforward#bekind#bekindalways#teachers#unionstrong

Spreading kindness through writing ✨ Our writing focus this term is procedural writing which leads to a lot of cool things to write about! Each child chose a member of staff at school to write about. They had to write about how to make this person using characteristics. Once the kids published and delivered their pieces of writing, I asked every single child how their experience was. They said they felt happy because they made someone else happy 🌞 We then talked about how we knew someone was happy by what their body language and facial expressions showed 💛 Highly recommend! The class loved it and it was super easy to do 👍🏻 ⭐️ How to make this inclusive for children with special needs or learning disabilities? Use visuals instead of them having to write it. You can cut out some visuals for them to choose from and they can glue those onto their writing 🙂 Easy peasy! #teachinclusive#spreadkindness#writingforwellbeing
The students start off each morning in their "home spots" where I take attendance and they complete their morning work. If they are good during my first lesson of the day, I turn on our "Smart Spot" light. This indicates that they have the freedom to move to any seat they feel they will work their best in. This light switch is a daily reminder that our smart spots/seat are an absolute privilege and that if their behavior is not on point, it might night ever turn on.
