Yesterday I was trying to get my child to do what I asked.
I raised my voice and asked in my best stern voice “who is the adult here.
She cocked her head to the side looked at me inquisitively and responded “no one, there isn’t one”
I’ve literally never felt so seen.
Four years ago today I popped out this tiny human in a garden floor apartment of a brownstone in Brooklyn. The entire neighborhood sitting on their stoops, my labor sounds adding to the melodic cacophony of the symphony that is a Bedford Stuyvesant Block in the Summertime.
Moral of the story, parenthood is simply caring for a teeny tiny human that never stops exposing your most intimate bits.
Both literally and figuratively

Will do! I love New Orleans year-round, but there is a special magic to Carnival season (aka Mardi Gras, but it’s not the same thing). We typically partake in the festivities during the last weekend of Carnival right before Fat Tuesday. Which is when most of the tourists are around. •
Something I learned a long time ago, but still fail at is that if you want to go to Mardi Gras (I usually use that term for the season), you need to book your lodging WAY in advance if you want to stay in a hotel. I always prefer Airbnb for most of my lodgings regardless of the city I am going to. Same advice applies, though. Book early if you want a good price and location on Airbnb. •
STORY TIME: Last year we decided we wouldn’t do Mardi Gras 2019 (who were we trying to kid?), but then in early February we decided we wanted to go after all...1 month before! The only Airbnbs available were out of our price range or within but not to my liking. Hotels had no openings. Neither did hostels. I obsessed over lodging, checked and rechecked and called about cancellations, etc...for a week until !finally!... a neat place within our budget in the St. Roch neighborhood opened up on Airbnb! This time around for Mardi Gras 2020, we booked early August. It wasn’t too difficult to find an Airbnb we liked. •
MYTH: You need to show your boobs to get beads. Though I wouldn’t shy away from flashing a boob or two to get me something cool, I wouldn’t do that at Mardi Gras because I WILL get arrested if the police see me. Also, there’s family and children around! C’mon! Have some decency, people! If you show your boobs to get beads, joke’s on you because you can get that shit from the floats no flashing required. More on Mardi Gras another time.

Simple, all-white with hints of nature is my favorite aesthetic. It’s easy to be inspired in this beautiful city.
I hope your week is treating you well! I have been hiding indoors from the heat these past couple months, but this weekend is my FAVORITE event of the summer - Running of the Bulls!! Who’s going to be there?!

Today on Stories I made a little visit to the recently opened White’s Mercantile on Magazine Street in New Orleans.
It’s always a little hard for me to move on from places I’ve loved that close. I guess I have a (sometimes irrationally) loyal streak in me. Until recently The French Library, the facade was the prettiest blue with gold lettering. It was a fairy tale French bookstore for children. 📚
Now that the French Library is no more, White’s Mercantile has expanded from their original location in Nashville. Owned by singer/songwriter Holly Williams (daughter of Hank Williams, Jr), it is a collection of lots of giftable items Holly has encountered on her own travels. I found it to be a good place to find thoughtful gifts, and found some things I plan on giving for birthdays and teacher gifts. 🎁
This post is not sponsored. I bought a little something from White’s I’m going to do a giveaway with in the next few days. Watch this space! 😀
Some of my favorite things from this shoot:
1. This was my first time stepping foot in the woods of Louisiana
2. I found out that Rob’s family happens to be from a neighboring NJ town (Roxbury) to my hometown (Randolph)
3. It was so much fun and I get to see them again in November for their wedding 🥰
