Building muscle mass is about doing the right things in the gym paired with an optimal nutrition program and sleep cycle. While I have spoken about the importance of eating proper food and preferably in a caloric surplus if the goal is to build muscle, training is paramount as well. When trying to build muscle, your main focus needs to be on the compound lifts (movements that train multiple muscles at once and have the most potential for hypertrophy). You also need to focus on getting stronger which involves you lifting anywhere within the 4 to 12 rep range depending who you are, but usually 6 to 10 is ideal. Lastly, you need to rest 1 to 3 minutes each set as this is what will allow you to regenerate enough energy to be fresh for your next set and get an optimal intraworkout volume to stimulate growth. Though these things are the focus, you should also make time to train some isolation/ancillary movements and do so not only in the 6 to 10 rep range but also the 8 to 12 rep range and even sometimes try and get a pump to induce metabolic stress on the muscle (one of three causes of hypertrophy). Lastly, resting 30ish seconds is ideal when training in the more moderate to high rep ranges to allow you to keep the intensity high and the metabolic stress high as well. If you want to get big, you need to focus on training in a variety of ways.⠀

  • Have you ever wondered why your friend (who is a similar weight and leads a similar lifestyle to you) can eat whatever they like without EVER gaining weight, while you eat what feels like ONE ice cream cone and you gain a few pounds? 🍦
⠀
It might not be your imagination. This post from @fitnessreloaded Explains it perfectly!
⠀
Studies have shown you could be burning 100 to 800 calories LESS per day if you are a person who doesn't fidget much!
⠀
That means fidgeting could “potentially” make a difference to your fat loss goals, and you might not even notice you're doing it!
⠀
Fidgeting is defined as all those small movements you make during the day like shaking your knee, tapping your pen, moving around in your chair, hand gestures while you talk etc.
⠀
You don't have control over whether you are naturally a "fidgeter" or not, but maybe that annoying pen clicking and knee shaking in the office could actually be paying off for your fat loss! 😫
⠀

Most women usually start a diet to lose weight (focus on the symptom), instead of ALSO changing their (fattening) habits (focus on the cause). This is why they find it hard to push past losing the first 10 lbs and even if they do lose more, they end up regaining the weight. This struggle can go on for years.
⠀
At Fitness Reloaded we aim for lifelong results & complete annihilation of the fear of gaining weight again. That's why we won't just focus on the weight, but we'll ALSO work on the habits like:
⠀
-eating out of boredom ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-not knowing how to stop when you’re full⠀⠀
-eating food just because it's there⠀⠀
-avoiding exercise ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-mindless snacking, etc.
