(4/5⭐️) /Werbung, selbstgekauft/
In the early moments of Final Fantasy VIII, the main character, Squall, is asked about whether a villain of pure evil would fire him up to fight. Squall provides no answer, but ponders on it, thinking, “Right and wrong are not what separates us from our enemies… Both sides blame one another. There’s no good or bad side. Just two sides holding different views.” I often refer to this quote when I’m presented with someone’s truth that doesn’t align with mine. They are not wrong. What they believe is not false.
I then think of someone who is color blind observing a plant. To me and others, the leaves on a plant appears green. For the color blind, it might appear yellow. Who I am to take away from a person’s experience of the plant? If they find the yellow tints to be beautiful, would their perspective be wrong?
Our truths are filtered through our senses, into our minds, where we formulate our biases and truths, which drives us. Our experiences are uniquely personal. Truth is the first casualty of war, as Hiram Johnson famously said. In conflict, we are prone to debase the opposition’s truth as false, and attempt to credulate this perceived falsehood to others. I do not know what would eliminate the need for war from this world, but I know that providing the space for others to express their truths would be a good start.
The sky is blue to us. I’ve heard that blue is simply the only color we can perceive. So what’s the objective truth? For me, the sky changes colors, and I find that to be privily wonderful. It brings me peace to be in my own truths, to possess my own lens in order to be me.
“How can I fit it all in?”
People somehow think the key to success it to be able to “do it all”. But in fact, the opposite is true: When we want to do everything and more, we completely lose touch with ourselves and what is truly important. When everything is a priority, there are no priorities. That’s when we are busy but not productive. Constantly in motion, but never really getting anywhere. Whether it’s getting fit, improving our relationships or writing a book — when we focus on getting it all done, we’ll never generate any real momentum towards achieving the things that truly matter. Being successful in life and business is not about getting it all done. It’s about getting the right things done. It’s about doing less, but better. It’s about making progress on your most important goals every single day and consciously deprioritizing everything else. It’s about saying “NO” per default and saying “YES” only to the vital few things that truly matter. In short, being successful in business and life is about doing what matters most. That’s why the belief that we have to “fit it all in” and “can have it all” is actually holding us back in life. Big time. The real question is: What do you really want — a life of people-pleasing and struggling to fulfill all your commitments or a life of success in the few areas that truly matter to you? You should think about that. #words
“Part of the main plan of imperialism... is that we will give you your history, we will write it for you, we will re-order the past...What's more truly frightening is the defacement, the mutilation, and ultimately the eradication of history in order to create... an order that is favorable to the United States” -Edward Said
Today we are sharing the beautiful work of @subversive.thread to remember the labor of Martin Luther King Jr.
Contrary to the popular moderate white imaginary of the new construction of #mlk in contemporary society, he was a revolutionary anticapitalist, anti military and a radical. The figure of Martin Luther King has been exploited and reshaped in order to make him more digestible for those who support policing, capitalism and the liberal discourse against the #bipoc revolt.
As we recognize his patriarchal behavior and affiliation to a patriarchal institutions, we want to honor his key role in the fight for black justice in America.
History will erase the radicalism of MLK in order to prevent us from rising up against the horrors of capitalism and imperialism. But we must recognize who he truly was and why he was murdered.
Black liberation is an ongoing process in racist America and all of us must play an active role in it too.
Today we honor the labor of MLK but we call to keep the fight and struggle for black liberation as a collective but also as individuals.
