🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈Halfway to Edinburgh, you enter York. The present York station, designed by the North Eastern Railway architects Thomas Prosser and William Peachey, opened on 25 June 1877. It had 13 platforms and was at that time the largest in the world, being midway between London and Edinburgh. All the platforms except 9, 10 and 11 are under the large, curved, glass and iron roof. The ends are reminiscent of sea shells; passengers change lines to go to East Coast seaside towns.
